Following a sugesstion, I used made up boxes instead - (flat packed postal boxes that I made up, cut

out the centre - front and back - and painted white).

 

I then filled these with various items - either lined with different surfaces or placed items inside to provoke a different visual response as the box was viewed through.

 

 

 

The uniformality and replication of the boxes ensured that the main focus was on the box's contents, in an attempt to alter the thought process when viewing through the box to the space beyond.
