Week two - represent the word 'order' with the use of just typography.

 

Using beads spelt out the word by putting them in order to make the word 'order

 

Filled in the letters of the word with their numerical order - O = 1, R = 2 etc.

 

 

Drew the letters out onto foam and then cut them up - so that they have to be placed in order

to make up the word.

 



 



Exploring different ways to form the word - tracing the letters out.

 

 

 

tracing just the shapes in the letters and then just the shapes outside the letters.

Trying different layouts - letters decreasing in size so that there is an order of priority suggested.

Week One

Brief - Illustrative - Produce an image which expresses, illustrates and visually communicates the word 'order' (Only using illustrations).

Began with a mind map - looking at all different meanings of the word order

 

From mind map, began to draw different takes on the word

From these initial pictures, then combined some of the images

Had a change of heart on the crow video - decided instead to take shots of abandoned and derelict cottages.

Managed to get some interior shots as well - focussing on objects and possessions in the houses.

Go photos of people (from the past) from books in the library, to use in video as though they might have been the occuppiers of the now abandoned houses.

A soundtrack of Westminster Cathedral choir - Lament of the mother of God (Tavener)

haunting and emotive.

Sound clips of people in conversation and school playground sounds to fade in and out as though the ghosts of the people were present.

 

 

 

 

    

Photography and Lens Based Media

Project Brief: To produce a 3 miniute video piece composed entirely of still images.


Watched Chris Marker's Le Jette - a short science fiction film from 1962 composed almost entirely from still images.  Extremely well done, very powerful piece - quite dark and depressing.

    Thinking about ideas for project - story boards

Camera mounted on dash of car - taking shots of journey to college

 

 Following the progress of a single drip of water - to trickle, puddle, stream, waterfall, river.

 

A take on Hitchcock's 'The Birds' - building tension and anticipation with images of crows - first one, then two, more and more - include flashes of scenes from 'The Birds'.  Final shot of crows eating bread put out by neighbours.
